Unused tunnels are released
On the free plan a tunnel stays on as long as you use it. One left unused for 30 days is released, after a warning.
Tunnels don't expire. On the free plan, a tunnel stays on as long as you use it — your WireGuard configuration keeps working, with nothing to re-import.
A tunnel nobody has used for 30 days is released, so it doesn't hold a connection slot forever. Premium tunnels are never released for being unused.
You're warned first
After about 23 days without use we email you: "Still using your … tunnel?". The tunnel page and your account home show unused — connect to keep it.
To keep it, just connect with it in the WireGuard app before the date in the email. Nothing else to do — the warning goes away on its own.
What counts as "used"
Any connection from the WireGuard app with that configuration. We check the last time it connected, live from the server, when we look — we don't keep a history of your connections (see What we log).
If we can't tell (for example right after one of our servers restarted), we keep the tunnel.
It was released — now what?
Its configuration stops working. Create a new tunnel and import the new configuration into the WireGuard app — see Connect your first device.
You can turn off the warning emails under Email notifications in Account settings, but the tunnel is still released after 30 days unused.
