I can't connect

A checklist for when the WireGuard tunnel won't connect or connects but nothing loads.

Work through these in order — most problems are fixed by the first three.

First, check the service status — if your location shows a problem, try another one; we're already on it.

1. Is the tunnel still active?

Open Tunnels. If the tunnel you imported isn't there, or isn't connected, it has ended — a disconnected tunnel is deleted, and on the free plan a tunnel unused for 30 days is released. Create a new one and import its new configuration. See Unused tunnels are released.

2. Is WireGuard using the latest configuration?

Each tunnel has its own keys. If you created a new tunnel, the old configuration in WireGuard won't work any more. Remove it and import the new one from the tunnel's page (Download .conf or the QR code).

3. Have you reached a limit?

On the free plan, using your 10 GB for the month disconnects your tunnels. Check Data this month on Billing. See Data limit reached.

4. Try another location

A server can have a temporary problem. Disconnect the tunnel and create one for a different location.

5. Is your network blocking VPNs?

Some workplace, school, hotel and public networks — and some countries — block WireGuard. Try another network, such as mobile data. If WireGuard works there, the first network is blocking it.

Our servers also support protocols designed to get through these blocks (AmneziaWG, VLESS+REALITY and Hysteria2). They're used by the upcoming Ghostunnel apps; tunnels created on the website use WireGuard.

6. Check the basics

  • Is your device's date and time set automatically? A wrong clock can stop WireGuard connecting.
  • Is another VPN or security app running? Turn it off and try again.

Still stuck?
