Connect your first device
Create a tunnel, then import its configuration into the WireGuard app — by file or by QR code.
Connecting takes two parts: creating a tunnel in your Ghostunnel account, then adding it to the WireGuard app on your device.
1. Create a tunnel
- Sign in and go to Tunnels, or straight to create a tunnel.
- Pick a location. We choose the least busy server in that country for you.
- Optionally, give it a name — like Laptop — so you can tell your tunnels apart. The WireGuard app shows the same name.
- Select Continue.
You'll see your tunnel's Configuration — set your device up now: it's shown only this once, because we don't keep the tunnel's private key. (Missed it? Open the tunnel and select Get a new configuration.)
In a hurry? On your account home, Quick connect creates a tunnel in one click — on a server in your country when we have one, otherwise at the least busy location your plan allows.
2. Add it to WireGuard
First install the official WireGuard app — links for every platform are in Downloads. Then, on the page that shows the configuration:
- On a phone or tablet: in the WireGuard app, add a tunnel by scanning a QR code, and scan the code under Scan with your phone.
- On a computer: select Download .conf and import that file into the WireGuard app. You can also select Copy and paste the configuration in.
Then switch the tunnel on in the WireGuard app. Step-by-step guides: Windows, macOS, iPhone & iPad, Android, Linux.
Good to know
- Each tunnel is for one device. To connect another device, create another tunnel (your plan sets how many you can have at once). You can rename a tunnel any time from its page (Rename, next to its status).
- Keep the configuration file and QR code private — they contain the key to your tunnel. See Your keys.
- Tunnels stay on while you use them. On the free plan, one left unused for 30 days is released — see Unused tunnels are released.
